Can you be in the environmentalist field and not have experience? If so, doing what?

I don't have any experience what-so-ever with this field, as mentioned in my above question. How would I get started and where? I'm interested in it and am not sure where to begin!!

  1. Sure!  The oil companies will hire you as their spokesman to tell everyone how not all scientists agree on global warming.


  2. Experience doing what? And doing what in the environmental field?

    Can you roll up to a major university's biological sciences department and ask for a job without so much as a high school diploma? No, of course not.

    Can an indigenous dweller of a country in the global south employ permaculture and sustainable agricultural practices with a degree in environmental studies or agriculture? Of course!

    Be specific. :)
