  1. no it isnt. but there has to be more to the story than that. Perhaps they suspect an eating disorder and are dismissing her so she can get help.

  2. No.  It is not legal if it is a public school.

Find an attorney who is versed (means that he or she advertises) in civil law and/or education law...see the sources below for more information.

It sounds as if discrimination is being directed toward your friend...it will depends upon the specific circumstances and consulting an attorney will ensure that her civil rights are not being violated.  Make sure the attorney specializes or is versed in civil law.  Like doctors...they specialize in specific areas.

Also consider contacting the American Civil Liberties Union regarding your complaint...information is given below from wikipedia; and, they have organizations throughout the nation...to assist with civil matters...maybe they can help or find someone who can.

Montel Williams would probably be interested in hearing about her/his situation, too.  As a matter of fact, bring it to the attention of your area news providers (if known)...it deserves more than quiet tolerance based upon what you've stated thus far.

She/he may have an eating disorder; however, it does NOT become the discretion of the school to determine that.  If they are concerned for the student, they need to contact the state's Department of Children's Services for a determination of his/her family's ability to provide the child adequately with food.

Excuse me, I have a soapbox to get off of...and you have some research to do -- for your friend.

  3. My friend was in college and was a cheerleader. She was annorexic and she was kicked off the cheerleading team for health reasons. Her councelor spoke with her family behind her back and asked the family to get her help.

I would say that there is more to the reason your friend is leaving school than just being skinny. Maybe she is ashamed of the real reason and would rather not tell anyone.

Just be her friend and tell her how much you will miss her if she leaves.

  4. no thats not right..tell her to go to court & fight it.

  5. Maybe she is sick and needs to get helped...if she's naturally skinny it's discrimination...and she should fight it...if she lost weight dramatically, it's probably for her own good to get help for her anorexia...she might have not told you the whole story...

  6. no.

  7. I was nearly discharged from military service because I was below the allowable weight limit (I was sick) so I supposed that if someone is sick, then they can be withheld from an ordinary school.  The issue would be the school's ability (or inability) to protect such a frail person.

  8. I don't know that it is. Never heard that rule.

  9. No, that is discrimination, but the school can say they have the best interest of the child (not being able to defend himself).

  10. are you trying to be funny ?

    cause this isn't at all
