Can you be on someone's car insurance if they are in a different state?

I know you can be on medical insurance if its filed in another state. What about cars?

  1. typically you wouldn't need to.

    it really depends on the circumstances. is this person in the military? why is this person in a different state? for how long? does the policy allows for permissive uses? and lots more questions to follow.


  2. if you do not live in the same household and only drive the car while visiting once in awhile you do not have to be added to his policy to be covered.  if he gives you permission to drive it then his policy would cover you.  if you mean he lives in a different state and the car is with you, then yes, you have to be placed on his policy.
