Can you be on your parent's insurance policy if you live in a different state?

Used to live in Florida with my mom, but recently moved to Oklahoma. Once I get settled in and start working I'll be looking into getting a car. Any car which has a loan has to have full-coverage insurance, which is about $800-950 a month for a 18 year old male. Too expensive for me. :) Any help would be great... She uses Geico, for reference.

  1. If you move to another state you will probably have to get your own policy.  Unfortunately that means you will have to pay higher rates, but there's nothing you can do about it.  You could have your mom call her company and ask but I don't think they can insure someone living in a different state.

If you have to get your own policy just make sure you compare multiple quotes before you decide which company to go with.  The more research you do, the more of a chance you will have at finding an affordable rate.

    Good Luck!

  2. Nope, you are in another state, you are no longer a dependant or a Florida resident, you are working, it all makes you a separate household.  You have to have your own registration and insurance.
