  1. after seeing the effects of several Hurricane in FLa I think it would depend on where your at.  If your on the coast and they tell you to leave and you choose to stay then your probably in for a wild ride.  You will hear every bump crash and smash and the howling wind.  You will also without a doubt loose your electric.  Once the storm passes you will be stuck inside due to electrical lines that will be down and roads that are blocked. I have spoke to people that have rode out the storm and they say it is scary.

  2. It's a lot better than stick built. I would still use the rule, move to the side of the building in the direction of the storm, in the lowest part of the dwelling. It couldn't hurt.

  3. I would say that depends on how strong the hurricane is, and where your condo is located.  I've known people who have tried building "hurricane proof" houses that have been left with a bare slab after a particularly vicious storm.  If you're near the waterfront, and a hurricane is coming, board up and leave town!  Better safe than sorry!
