I was driving and this taxi got on my rear following me too closely so I sped up for him to get off my rear, then I slowed down so I wasnt speeding and he switched lanes and the lady beside me was going the same speed I was. I sped up finally and she turned. well the cab driver got in my lane and kept switching lanes violently with no signal. well I used my signal to switch lanes multiple times back and fourth, and he apparently started video taping me on his phone, He stopped his car in the middle of the road and pointed the phone at my direction and then smiled at me and dialed a number. Im thinking it was the police. Well he got off the phone and he tried getting me to roll down my window and I wouldnt. can I get a reckless driving ticket through the mail if this cab driver did call the cops?

  1. Lol. Definitely not. The only way you're ever going to get a ticket for anything the cops did not see in person is if you were in an accident. A lot of taxi cab drivers are nut jobs, so I wouldn't worry about it. Just be careful when you're around them, some will not think twice about ramming you with their car. If that ever happens again, pull out your cell phone, dial the number on the car, and tell them what's happening, as it happens. If you get the guy fired, you've done the world a service.

  2. NO!    The cab driver could complain about your driving,  but you have the same right to complain about his.     In fact,   he is representing a company,  the cab company,  and you state several unsafe actions he performed.    (Multiple lane changes,  no signal,  stopping in the traffic lane needlessly,  distracted driving while playing with his phone).    And you are right in not rolling down your window,  for all you know he is a pervert who would have done you harm.

Next time,   get the cab number and call his company.   They have an interest in seeing all cars with their livery (colors)  driven in a safe manner,   both for the public perception,   to control their liability risks,  and keep insurance costs down.

  3. As far as I know, no.

Taxi's always get up my rear, and they always drive like lunatics as well. Which I think is one of the reasons a lot of 17 year olds want to drive! So they aren't passengers in a loony-car!

  4. No, the cop has to actually see the violation to issue a ticket. If a cop was there and saw what you described, the cab driver probably would have been pulled over.

  5. No....................and if he did do something like this, then I guess you will find out when you get the mail.

  6. No, only law enforcement personnel can give you tickets. And they must be using approved gear properly calibrated daily and documented. A grainy video sent by average Joe Citizen doesn't count. Even camera tickets must be reviewed and issued by a proper officer.

If you believe the taxi driver is driving recklessly, get his cab number (it's always on the taxi, easily visible) and call the cab company to complain. Don't worry about jerks like this.
