  1. A friend of mine got his parents to fork out 40k to do a course and when he passed, he went to the R.A.F. and they turned him away because he wore glasses. Dunno if that still happens as it was 10 years ago, but do you want to be in a plane with Mr Magoo driving?

  2. You can. The requirments are that you have 20/40 vision with or without glasses or contacts. So if you have poor eyesight but it is correctable then you can still become an airline pilot. However you cannot be in the military with glasses, your vision must be perfect. There are many different kinds of pilots, you might want to be a bit more specific.

  3. yes you can -

you need to have glasses (and use them) that correct your vision to 20/40 or better -

here are the requirements for different levels in the united states - the class you need is dependant on the type of flight being conducted.

  4. You can become a commercial pilot but not a military one.  That's the case in the UK, anyway.  Otherwise we'd have no pilots over the age of 40!  They don't just sack them once their eyesight starts to go.

  5. A pilots vision has to be perfect but you can look the part wearing a pair of Ray-ban's looks like you can be a speed-cop if you wear Ray-ban's as well. Hahaha.:)

  6. OK, I'll confine myself to UK rules.  Yes, you can be a pilot (except for the military) as long as your eyesight meets the standards with or without glasses or contact lenses.

All that happens is you have an endorsement on your licence that says that you must wear the correction when flying and carry a spare pair with you.  I do.

I have a relative who's an airline pilot and he wears TRI-focals, of all things.

And an old friend who wears glasses while flying helicopters for the Navy; apparently his eyesight dipped below the standard after he started training and he was allowed to carry on to complete training & become fully fledged as an operational pilot.

I gather the Forces do allow this, as long as your sight is okay when you join, though whether you can as a fast-jet pilot I don't know.  You used to be able to, though, I often fly with an elderly gent who gave up flying Lightnings when he became fed up with his glasses slipping up his nose when upside down . . .

  7. Yeah, sorry. You only win if it's military pilots. Commercial ones can have glasses. They don't neet to shoot shite.

  8. Have u tryed contact lences

  9. No. Even the captain of the sea is not allowed to have a poor vision and eyesight. let alone someone who's flying a plane in mid-air.

  10. i can think you can u knw

  11. Not in the military, but otherwise, all you need is correctable to 20/20.

  12. yes, any type. Even Military just not in fighters.

  13. depending on your goal if u want to be military u gonna be in trouble acause u can`t. but ...if u want to be private the sky is the limit.

  14. Yes you can. Certain kinds of pilot can't - Military for example, but most civilian pilots licences are available.

  15. yh u can....it may depend what type like a fighter pilot or whatever

  16. of course you can, no problem in there. you can't if you have poor vision and you don't wear the glasses or contacts :)

  17. Commercial yes; military - fighters / fighter-bombers no.  Cargo / freight I think so; rotary wing - no.

  18. Your question is not specific enough.  You could certainly get a private pilot's license.  When I took an Air Force ROTC test over 30 years ago, I could not have been a military pilot wearing glasses (I passed the test and could have been a navigator).  Not sure about commercial pilots.  But Lasik surgery could make eyeglasses unnecessary.

  19. yes, i am a commercial rated pilot, my medical certificate says

only valid while wearing corrective lenses

  20. I say you can learn and go on joy flights but cant be a pilot unless u have 20/20 vision

  21. That would depend entirely on what you licence you had. Private Pilots Licence - OK, provided eyesight was OK with glasses.

    Airline pilot - don't know

    Military pilot - no chance!

  22. most of these people are wrong at the top! The answer is that you can wear glasses as a pilot. The FAA requirements says that you must have a vision of 20/20, but it also says that it has to be corrected if needed. So you can wear contacts or glasses as long as they are corrected to 20/20

Visit the site below, its provided by the FAA!

  23. Commerial pilot definately,  there was some rugby guy as far i remember who went through hi training with easyjet after he retired from rugby.  he had glasses.
