Can you become the same kind of lawyer with ILEX as a law degree?

I'm still a bit confused about exactly what ILEX qualifies for.

Somebody said it's less academic, so what difference does that make for the jobs? Is all the academic work I'm doing for my law degree a waste of time if I can train another way?

  1. Warning:  Jobs in the field of Law are drying up FAST right now!!!  This is NOT a good field to invest in right now!!!  Reasons:   very bad economy, there are simply too many attorneys for today's economy, today people (mistakenly) think they can do their own legal work thanks to the WWWeb, there are WAY TOO MANY law schools today churning out WAY TOO MANY graduates for the economy.

Suggestion:   Go into the field of Healthcare <<< LOTS of jobs there!!!

  2. There is no difference if you are going to be a mundane solicitor. But it is a dog eating dog situation if you are going to be a barrister or going for a big career plan.

  3. In order to become a solictor you have to do an LPC,  In order to get on the LPC , you need either a law degree LLB or a GDL.

The ILEX allows you to gain sufficient qualifications to get on to do the LPC.

So your route to do the LPC is either

    LLB ( 3 years)

    GDL ( one year)

ILEX ( over a number of years)
