  1. Science is a good thing, but not all science.  My husband is a scientist but we believe in creation not evolution.  Evolution can be proved wrong in so many ways where creation cannot.  Without science we wouldn't have medicine, lights, phones, etc....

  2. God and science go beautifully together  =)

  3. Absolutely. You should get the book "The Language of God" by Dr Francis Collins. Collins is the head of the Human Genome project - one of the foremost geneticists in the world. He converted from atheism in his late 20s if I remember correctly. Google him and you will find lots of info. There's a good 2hr lecture on youtube of him explaining how evolution and faith can coexist and why the adversarial approach between evolutionists and creationist turns people away from God.

  4. Sure you can believe in god and also in science.  But only parts of both.  Modern science has showed that the existence of a god is highly unlikely and absolutely unnecessary.  If you still want to believe in god then you're going to need to redefine him to fit in the "gaps" left in science.  But don't worry, in due time he'll be pushed out of even those gaps.

  5. Yes, you can believe in the Bible and evolution.

One example is believing the Genesis creation story is not literal, but instead a story for teaching morals.

Another way to look at it is your god created the universe and the earth and everything, and he let man develop from evolution, like how you might take care of a plant as it goes from seed to sprout to flower, etc... something he watched over.

  6. of course "god created evolution" pfftttt your gonna get alot of those

no such thing as h**l dont let something like that scare you there are 1000+ religions saying if you dont believe in their religion youll go to h**l

  7. Not many people do because they are tied down to their belief system.  But I dont see why the two cant be interconnected with each other.  When I was Christian I used to be believe in both all the time.

Today, I consider myself neither Christian nor Atheist.  Why tie myself down to a name or a classification of beliefs/facts when any element of any belief or fact or religion could possibly ring true?

  8. No, you can not believe what is in the Bible and in evolution.  However, what you fail to understand is there is good science and bad science.  God is the greatest scientist.  Look what he created!  Evolution is bad science.

This world isn't getting better, its getting older and dying.  It's winding down.  It started out perfect, just the way God wanted it.  He even said so:

(Gen 1:31)  And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

Then after the fall of Adam and Eve, everything began to age and get old and begin the process of dying.

    for dust thou art, and unto dust shall thou return; his body was composed of the dust, was of the earth, earthly, and should be reduced to that again by death, which is not an annihilation of man, but a bringing him back to his original; which shows what a frail creature man is, what little reason he has to be proud of himself, when he reflects from whence he came and whither he must go;

Evolution says the earth is getting better and so is man.  That is a lie.

  9. Last I heard the Pope said Christianity and Evolution are not at odds.

    *Edit*

That was Pope John Paul II

  10. Genesis says that God created the earth and animals and humans. So how can you believe that we evolved with no creator at the same time?

  11. don't let other people tell you what you believe in ..

  12. I do.

  13. You will find that most Christian denominations left the persecution of science back in the history books. There are only a few holdouts these days, but they are a very vocal minority. Come to alphaomegachurch in yahoo groups to learn more. Here is a link directly to my sermon on creation and evolution.

You don't have to join to read the messages, but you are welcome to.

  14. Yes you can, and you can still believe in God.   Evolution does not go against the bible.  It is taught in Catholic schools too.

  15. Sure you can believe it just know that Christians are the unsuccessful mutations. They are the hybrid species of the homonid race.

  16. God tells us how he made Creation in Genesis chapter 1. If he had done it some other way, he would have told us so.

Evolution is a unproved theory, because it is a false theory.

Science is the study of God's creation.

  17. Of course. One of my neighbors believes in evolution and he's an Orthodox Jew. He's also part of NASA. I think JPL.

  18. of course

  19. Yes.  They are apples and oranges.  Evolution doesn't seek to explain the ORIGIN of life.  That is abiogenesis.

You cannot be a Christian and believe in abiogenesis.  (Life came from nothing).

EDIT - And I don't know why Katya got so many thumbs down, she is right on accurate with her answer and didn't even give her opinion in the matter.  Lighten up folks, gracious.

  20. There's nothing supernatural about evolution.

If one stops blaming or invoking the supernatural, the world in all its beauty and ugliness will make complete sense.

    Good = humankind

    Bad = humankind

See the truth for what it is.

  21. Yes,it is ok to believe in both. What you shouldn't believe are those who said you cant believe in evolution and the Bible.

  22. you can... but I don't think you can be a christian...

  23. go to www.icr.org

  24. No you cannot...

"From the beginning of the Creation God made them male and female..."-- Jesus  (Mk. 10:6)

Scripture  says God SPOKE all things into existence with His Word:

" By the Word of the Lord were the heavens created, and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth....  For HE SPAKE AND IT WAS DONE;  HE COMMANDED AND IT STOOD FAST". (psalm 33:6-9)

    Furthermore...

You cannot assume that each 'day' in Genesis is millions of years because the "sun , moon, and stars" were created the day AFTER the "plants, and green trees"... (Not possible if there were millions of yrs.)

    Don't be deceived...

The order of creation days DOES NOT allow for each 'day' to be millions of years. Read Exodus 20:11

  25. If you do, you are trying to rationalize how religion and science can co-exist.

A true Christian believes in the bible. There are countless references in the bible which 100% contradict evolution.

  26. Christians who agree with evolution are generally more liberal Christians. They recognize the bible has been edited, translated, that Genesis is a metaphor, etc.

If you think the bible was faxed from heaven (that Genesis is LITERAL) then no, I don't see how you could agree with evolution and literal biblicalism.

  27. evolution is basically going against the word of God so no, you cant believe in both.

  28. Thousands of years ago , mankind did not know what DNA, black holes,

or even what the stars were.

God gave his children a simple explaination

    some thing they could understand

As we got smarter, we discovered so many awsome events

Don't sell God short...Evolution is more awsome than

    the bible story

  29. don't know about the Bible and evolution (I'm not a follower of the religion which uses the Bible, so will leave that part for others to answer).....

but there's nothing too problematic in believing in physics/evolution as being the mechanics of human "existence" and other creation myths/Deity as being (allegories for) EXACTLY WHY humans are here in the form they are. As a Pagan, I have no problem in allowing some people to have been created by different processes, maybe by the Biblical God (but dispute some interpretation of exactly what happened) , and other people to have been created in another way, maybe by a different Deity, or maybe they even evolved all on there own. (OK I still haven't accounted for the similarities, but evolution also struggles with that issue!)

My personal choice of creation myth is the Norse one, which I believe refers to the dawn of human awareness/self-identity, and seems to have an afinity for where I FEEL I come from. Evolution IS a good idea which seems to work, even though it remain untestable (devise an experiment which creates a new independent/parallel lineage of humans, from bacteria, and I would consider it proven!)

    ---

I'd argue modern science is getting closer to a need for some concept of Diety! It's starting to run out of things to describe "the movement of", and it's starting to become more obvious (after four/five hundred year of dominance?)  that it often subtly/cleverly avoids giving a straight answer as to WHY. To cover WHY (not HOW!) is ontology, a branch of philosphy (which would include religion)  not science

  30. you can believe in both but it is a lot more important to believe in Jesus.

when someone tells you that you cannot believe in both they lie. if you believe and have faith in Jesus that is what is required. i can't think of one scripture that says you cannot believe in evolution as the way we were created. i know about the seven days in genesis but that could be talking spiritually about the 7000 years from the fall of man to the new creation after the millennial reign of Christ. that would explain the difference between chapters 1 & 2. anyway it does not say how long adam and eve were in the garden before the fall so why couldn't that have been the period of evolution to take place like 1000 years or 1 billion years.

i believe that the big bang did happen but i believe someone lit the fuse that ignited the bang. i don't believe we evolved from apes because we are above all animals with the ability to reason. and anyway our chemistry makeup is closer to a pig then a monkey. but yes you can believe in both with discretion about evolution.

    Peace!!!

  31. No, you can't have it both ways.

The truth is that God said in the Bible that He created all things after their own kind (meaning no crossover, no "evolution").  The Lord also says in the Bible that Adam and Eve were created as the first people.  Created.  Not "evolved".

You can't believe "evolution" and the Bible.

Believe the Bible.  The Bible is the Word of God, and the Bible is 100% true and is the final and ONLY authority on all matters.
