cause the rich buy more?

here is my question...do you think this person who was making this argument is really interested in having the rich pay more in taxes or was he just trying to hoodwink me? why do I say hoodwink? because if he wanted the rich to pay more in taxes, then why is he against the progressive income taxes which basically is designed to make the rich pay more as they make more income.

  1. If they are saying the average rich person would still pay more than the average poor person, they're right.  But if they are saying the rich would pay more than they do today and the poor would pay less, they are dead wrong.  I suppose it depends on how you parse their statement.

  2. Does it really matter? It is not going to change anytime soon.

Besides, there is no such thing as a fair tax. This is almost like the last question I answered...why would people want to work less if taxes are higher?

It is simple, why go the extra mile to succeed if you will not have anything to show for it.

And the comment of taking all the rich people off the earth and we would all survive and have jobs. Yes, we would go on...we would make new rich people. I am assuming that you mean leaving all of the things their success paid for...such as the factories. I think that idea has been tried before and failed (try googling USSR).

    Hope this helps

  3. Not sure exactly what you're talking about.  If he was trying to say that the rich will be taxed more than the average person than yeah that's probably true.  If he was trying to say that they will be taxed more than currently that would be hard to say.  It's easy to say that rich people spend lots of money because the news is always talking about the crazy amounts of money celebrities spend, but your average wealthy person does not spend that type of money all the time.

  4. If you eliminated all of the rich in the world (and their wealth) a new class of rich would take their place....but in the mean time there would be a lot fewer jobs and it would take a serious toll on the economy.

Did you know that a progressive tax was one of Marx's basic tenants of communism???  True thing.

What's wrong with everyone paying the same percentage?  Afterall, we all vote in politicians who steadily raise the taxes.  Doesn't it make voters more accountable when it's THEIR money that's being spent instead of someone elses???

The main problem is that we have irresponsible voters who put in irresponsible politicians who spend irresponsibly.....after all, it's someone elses money.

50% of tax payers pay $0 in federal income tax.  Guess how they're going to vote when it comes to increasing the taxes of the other 50%???

Meanwhile, higher taxes mean that there is less money to spend (which is taxed), give away (which is taxed), or invest (which is taxed).    however, those 3 things are really good for our economy.  Taxation is not.

You cannot tax yourself to prosperity.

  5. i think the bottom line is. no one likes to pay taxes no matter how rich or poor you are.

  6. i read that rich people are the reason we all have jobs
