My PowerMac G4 can't find a startup disk so I'm getting the blinky folder. I don't have my restore disk but I was wondering if I could maybe use an upgrade disk to boot holding the c key?

Is this possible?

  1. You should be able to. Then once your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu.

    Click the First Aid tab.

Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.

Select your Mac OS X volume.

Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.

With a little luck that will take care of your problem.

  2. boot it maybe, reinstall more than likely not. Upgrades are intended to do only that - upgrade
