Can you bring a desktop computer to a private boarding school?

I have a desktop and I would like to know if you can bring a computer or does it have to be a laptop?

You should check with your school. It is very likely that there will be no problem./ Desk room, however may be a problem.

    I think it is possible to bring a PC to school but the real question is... will you have enough room for it.  I assume you will be sharing a dorm room which cuts your space by 1/2.  

If there is enough room on your assigned desk for the PC,  there should be no problem with the administration but to be safe,  you should phone them and get permission.   If it were me,  I would rather have a PC than a lap top as well... so

As someone who went to boarding school for several years, I would recommend against having a desktop in your room. Not one person at the school I went to had a desktop, we all had laptops. I was looking around some of the top schools' websites and I found that some do allow desktops, such as Andover (see here: https://www.andover.edu/technology/minsp... )

So basically you'll have to look at the website of the school you want to go to and find their policy on computers.

But, even if the school does allow it, I still wouldn't take it. Desktops are bulky and take up quite a bit more space than a laptop does. And since you're sharing a room with another student you'll need all of the desk space you can get. The worst aspect of having a desktop, however, is its lack of mobility. When others will take their laptops to the library to study or to a friend's room to ask a homework question, you won't be able to. Desktops are definitely not student-friendly. It would be very wise to invest in a new laptop, if for no other reason than so that you won't be one of the few with a desktop. They're just not a smart choice for a student in a boarding school setting.
