Can you bring packaged food through security at the airport?

I want to bring trail mix on my flight. There's a special kind that I like so I would buy it (sealed and all) and put it in my carry on bag. Am I allowed to bring it or do they only let you buy it once you get in the terminal?

Yes just no fruit or drinks.

Yes, you can.  Just not liquids.

You are allowed to bring your own food on the airplane.  You can't bring drinks on the plane though unless you buy them after you go through security.
