Can you buy a DVR that does not have to be used with Directv, Dish, or Cable?

Or Tivo. Anything I can just hook up to my TV and record.

  1. Tivo. But you'll need to pay for Tivo service too unless you get one with a DVD recorder (which gives you a limited free service). Then you can hook up an antenna and record. But as far as I know, they are not compatible with over the air digital broadcasts/converter boxes.


  2. Than what would you use it for? A paper weight.

    A DVD recorder or a VHS recorder.

  4. You would have to have one of the 3 to get programming unless your getting your programming off an antenna..but if your asking do you have to purchase a DVR through one of these companies then no..you can get a Tivo and subscribe to their service.
