Can you buy a creche in Italy year round, or only during the holidays?

I am wondering if creches (or however you spell that!) are available year round it Italy. I would really like to get one when I go there (not sure when that will be yet).

I need to know where to buy them and what kind of price to expect and if they are available in non-holiday seasons.

Thank you for your help.

  1. Don't know the prices.... but Naples is famous for them and you can find them all your round.

  2. Yes, you can find them all year, but they are more widely available during the Christmas season. It shouldn't be hard to find something at other times though. Price will vary widely depending on the material, size, and quality and could run from 10 euro to hundreds or thousands of euro. The first website below shows pictures and prices of several examples. Look for religious shops near the churches in the major cities - near the Vatican in Rome there are lots of places to look. In Italian, you want to look for a presepio.

Here are a couple of examples of places:

    Modena:

    Cremona: http://www.ilpresepio.com/ilPresepio/fro...

Brembo di Dalmine (4 km off the autostrada between Milan and Verona - Creche Museum - note only open Sunday from 2 pm to 6 pm: http://www.museodelpresepio.com/

There are a lot of places that specialize in components for do-it-yourself creches. This is an important art form here; during the Christmas season, there are organized tours to various towns to see the displays.

  3. usually you can find it only during holidays, but there is this shop in rome open all year:

    via Carlo Lorenzini, 63 Roma.
