Can you buy disney tickets as a gift?

Question

I would like to buy tickets but physically have them to put them in an envelope for someone as a gift? I don't know why I have the impression that when you buy them online you have to print a confirmation and show it at the tickte booth?

I'm not sure what is sent when you buy from disney.com.  My friend bought her passes thru an authorized retailer (undercovertourist.com) and she received an actual ticket.  PLEASE be careful though when you are storing these not to have them too close to anything that may demagnetize them.
