Question:

Can you buy licenses in California to keep illegal pets? (Gerbils, Ferrets, Hedgehogs, etc.)?

And If you can..

1. Where do you get them?

2. How much are they?

3. Are there any requirements, such as you need to be an animal specialist (or something like that?)

  1. gerbils ferrets and hedgehogs are not illegal pets...


  2. The answer is no.

    The California Department of Fish and Game has deemed all those animals as illegal to keep as pets in California.

    If they find out that you have one of them, they can confiscate it.

    The only time I've seen them legally is in an animal refuge (Shambala - servals, African lion) or a zoo in CA.

    Maybe if you got work at some place like that, you could find out more?
