If you always get your meds at a certain pharmacy, and are in a hurry and don't want to wait, can you call them in yourself beforehand? I know a doctor can but how about a patient/customer?

Sorry if this is dumb... but I am young and just never really had to do this before.

  1. No only a doctor can renew your prescription.

  2. if there are refills left on it yes you can call it in,,there are some pharmacies that you can even order online.  i called mine in all the time so they were ready when i was in town.

  3. YES, you can. As long as the refill is already on file, you can call and let them know.

  4. It depends on if the Dr ordered refills. If its something like birth control, you can call them in to make sure they are ready when you get there. But for a new Rx or anything not already ordered by a Dr, no you cannot.

  5. i call mine in. they ask for the Rx the dr. wrote out to verify.

  6. All these answers are correct.  And you've already answered your own qustion by saying it's for just a refill.

When you call into a drug store for a prescription, it's the same as showing up and telling them you want it.  You are only informing them differently.

However, the prescription itself HAS to have the ability for refills, as prescribed by the doctor.  If the doc gives you 3 refills, and you've already had 3 refills, no amount of calling will get you an extra refill.

Then the doctor has to write you a new prescription.

Otherwise, yes, call it in, so you don't have to wait in line!!

  7. you can call in if it is for a refill on a medication that you already have and it has refills available. You can't on a new prescription they have to have the original of the prescription
