Can you carry and use both American and Jordanian passports?

I have permanent residency in the U.S. and I would like to apply for a U.S. passport. Do I have to renounce/cancel my existing Jordanian passport?

Will I no longer be a Jordanian national?

As far as I know you can have both a Jordanian and American passport. Just make sure when entering or leaving the USA you have your American passport stamped. The same as when you enter or leave Jordan. My Son has both.  I just read that you are only a permanent resident and like the other poster said you will not be able to obtain an American passport.

First of all you have to be a US citizen to get a uS passport.  After that then yes, you can have/use the two passports.  Just use whichever one is appropriate when entering and exiting.

First of all, you need to be a US citizen in order to apply for a US passport. You say you have permanent residency in the US; that is good, that's the first step, but you now need to apply for US citizenship before you can apply for a US passport.

In order to apply for US citizenship, you will need to meet residency requirements in the US; basically, you need to have been a legal permanent resident for 5 years, or 3 years if you are married to a US citizen.

Once your application for naturalization has been approved and you have taken the oath, you are a US citizen, and only then can you apply for a US passport.

As for your question(s) on your Jordanian passport, you will not have to renounce your existing passport, but you may have to renounce your Jordanian nationality, which would invalidate your Jordanian passport. I do believe Jordan allows for dual citizenship however, so you probably will not have to renounce anything. Do check with the Jordanian embassy in the US but I think you'll be fine.
