Yes you can carry a cell phone with you on Ameircan Airlines or any other airlines. However, once you are on the plane and the plane is about to take off you must turn your cell phone off. Now, once the flight reaches is altitude level you will hear the flight attendance say that its ok to turn on all electronic devices back on (ipods, lap tops, dvd's, et). She will also say that you can turn your cell phones on ONLY if it has the option of AIRPLANE MODE. Check to see if your phone has airplane mode on it. If it doesn't then your phone has to remain off until you land.

cell phones are allowed on all flight overseas or domestic.  you will not be able to use it durning take offs and landings.  and for the most part, being 15,000 to 30,000 feet in the air, you will not be able to get a signal from it to use anyway.
