You have to know the safe sites.

Dear god yes you can. If you want to be safe, rather than scanning every site for malicious scrips...just disable them :)

Firefox has a nifty addon called "Noscript" that allows it to disable all javascripts on a page, thus rendering the most common method of infection useless. However, if you click on any links and download it to your computer nothing can prevent you from doing that to yourself.
