  1. My kids have owned two Neons.

    They both were hybrids!

Gasoline engine was the first source of locomotion.

    Tow truck was the second!

    Gas was cheaper!

  2. To change it into a true Hybrid, meaning two power supplies most commonly gas and electric it would cost you way more than its worth.

  3. It would cost more than the neon's worth, trade the neon in on a hybrid.

  4. Some very enterprising individuals have changed regular cars into hybrids, but it's a really involved job.  You'll probably wind up changing out every component of the drivetrain and maybe losing a large portion of your luggage space.

Google "21 ponies" to find a link to a site from a guy who did this exact thing - he hogged out all the original underhood bits of a Neon, added a small diesel engine, generator, and electric motor plus batteries to make his little car go hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of miles on a single tankful of diesel.

Now, diesel costs more than gas...but when you're getting close to TRIPLE the mileage but only paying 20% more at the pump, you're still way ahead.

Try hypermiling your Neon instead.  All you have to do is change your driving habits.  Your out-of-pocket cost is $0.00 and it starts paying off immediately.

Go to Ecomodder.com and CleanMPG.com for tips on how to hypermile your car and small, inexpensive mods that make it get better mileage even if you can't change your habits.
