Can you change caller id?

Is there a possible way to make a call from a cell phone and make the caller id show up on the person's phone you're calling as another number? I know that sounds confusing.. Like say I was calling Bob and I wanted the caller ID to say the number for his friend Joe. Is that possible?

  1. You bet ya!!!  Try http://spoofcard.com/  Basically you can buy a calling card there where you can change the number that appears on the other person's caller id to any "valid" number that's available in the U.S.  You can even make their own phone number appear on their phone's caller id.  On their detailed billing it'll say that the number you spoofed called them with called them, even if you made it look like their own number was calling their own number!  I know this because I experimented with it to verify spoofcard's claim. This is because it not only spoofs caller ID but also automatic number identification (ANI), which is what toll free numbers (and 911) use to see through blocked numbers.  Whenever I've tried calling numbers that claim to see through blocked calls and see someone's real number and tell you what your real number is, they always can't see through my spoofcard calling card (however, spoofcard does put a block on it so you can't call 911 or toll free numbers, because it's illegal at the federal level to fake your number when calling a toll free number and they don't want to be liable).  You can also record your calls, but you'll have to be careful because in some states you have to let the other party know that you're recording the call, while in other states (including mine) only one party needs to know (in my case that could be me the caller, it's meant to stop wire tapping).

Also, a lot of the free online sites that let you change your caller id just for fun aren't really any good, so usually you'll need to get a paid calling card to get something worth your time, like Spoofcard.  The voice changer doesn't sound like a real person, but never the less it's a lot of fun.  And the caller ID/ANI spoofer and recorder are extremely useful.

I know that some in Congress are trying to make a law to make it illegal to spoof caller ID/ANI, unless you're a valid business/organization trying to make your outbound number look like the main business number.  However, those individuals in Congress haven't been successful yet and it's still legal, so I'd give it a try.  Just don't do anything stupid with it, because although there's no way for the phone company to find out who actually made the phone call, they can track it back to SpoofCard, who will only give out your number if they get a court order (so don't do anything illegal, etc).

  2. I don't think so. I know you can make your call anonymous though if you dial *67 and then the number.

  3. Yup.  www.telespoof.com.

Professionals use it, law enforcement, sales, etc..

You'll love it, only ten cents per min.
