Absolutely you can change, it is your education.  You can change as often as you like, and in fact, don't have to even "declare" a major in the first year, you can simply take the general studies courses which are common to almost every degree program.  Now, if you are on a scholarship program, rules may be different and the number of changes to a degree plan may be limited without drawing a penalty or even losing your scholarship.  Hope that clears up the issue for you.


  2. Of course you can. Most people have no clue what they want to do even after their 1st yr, and the few that do are lucky. I changed my major three times throughout the course of college before I finally found something that I could envision myself doing for the rest of my life. Your first year is usually filled with general education requirements anyway that are needed for all majors, so even if you do change my guess is that there won't be many (if any) credits that you will lose.
