Question:

Can you change your US Airway ticket to an earlier day by showing up at the airport in order to avoid the fee?

I booked mine on the 25, but I need to get there at the 21.

It only cost 120 bucks, and to change the date is 150!!!

It's ridiculous! It's nonrefundable, nontransferable, non nothing!

Basically, if I don't show up, I don't get anything back, because in order to get that credit back, I have to pay 150 to get my $120 ticket back.

Any advice or tips? I have seen people coming on the wrong time like 10 AM (when their ticket said 10 PM) and they were able to get a way with it.

  1. I'm not sure, but my source might help.  Please go check it.  Alright.

  2. You can only switch flights on the same day, so you're out of luck. I suggest you buy a new ticket since it's cheaper than changing your existing ticket.

  3. Unfortunately, when you bought the ticket you agreed to those terms.

There are no tips here. You made a mistake and now have to live with it. in the end, you have a ticket that secures a seat on the plane. That's it. If you change it, you have to pay. If you don't show up, you still paid.

Try to go stand-by is one thing (as with the coming in at 10 AM when the plane leaves at 10 PM) but to demand a flight 4 days earlier is just not going to happen. You can TRY stand by, but if it's somewhere popular, you won't usually get on the flight.

  4. this is a hard one i would just pay xtra and get there faster unless ur in a $ crnch i would just go on the 25th

  5. You might be able to fly earlier if space is available but that will probably cost you a fee.  If you try to fly out earlier the day of your original reservation, you can usually go fee free, space available.  The problem lately is the flights are usually packed.  My wife and I fly free but it's usually worth it to buy the ticket to avoid getting bumped.

    good luck!

  6. This applies to all airlines but you can avoid the fee only if they do have seats available.  Here's the best tip to help you hopefully.  Be cordial and cooperate with them.  Don't make them an enemy. If you can go directly to the airport that day you want to go and be there early enough b4 the flight leaves say 2 hrs if domestic.  Ask to be placed on standby of course if seats are available and be open to different departure times so be early for the whole day.  By being good natured and attentive to them they will go out of the way 4 u.  Too, chat with the one that seems to be the most friendly and helpful so observe b4 just talking with anyone.

  7. What the airlines told you is true and accurate. You might try playing stupid but it probably won't fly. The airlines have really strict policies about changing and canceling flights in order to maximum the bookings on a minimal number of flights. This is all made clear up front. The point is that if it is that important to you to change the flight, you won't mind paying to do so. This cuts down on the number of people changing flights on a whim and then changing them back, which at one time was a serious problem with all the airlines.

  8. Standby is only for the same day of travel. If you want to change the date, you'll have to pay the fee.
