Can you check into a hotel before the check-in time? HELP!?

Question

Here's the deal-

I'm going to New York this fall. My plane will arrive in New York at 9:50 am. But my hotel check-in time is 3:00 pm. I want to walk around New York and do some site seeing before then.

The question- Can I check-in before my hotel check-in time? If not, what can I do with my luggage? Because I most definatly don't want to haul it around New York City with me.

If they have a room available they will let you. Otherwise most offer to hold your luggage for you until your room is ready. Contact the hotel to see if they offer this service.
