This means im going to need to spend thousands of pounds having damp proof put in, taking some of the wall away and redecorating. Is there a way that i can claim this on home insurance??

  2. I'm afraid not.

All insurance policies tell you that you have to keep your building regulary maintained.

The fact that you have discovered damp means that you didn't take preventative measures.

  3. Insurers cover for perils. Storm, flood, fire etc. Damp dopes not fall under these. Accidental Damage (AD) covers sudden, unforeseen, external damage so will exclude gradually operating causes. In my experience (twenty years in the insurance industry) there is usually a specific exclusion for dry and wet rot.

  4. Insurance will only cover for certain events or happenings which are listed on your policy. If the damage is not as a result of one of these covered perils then you will not be covered.

  5. if you have emergency cover and ring ur insurence company and say it may leak and cauz a lot of problem they may solve it asap. mine was on my rough they did.

  6. I'm guessing you mean dampness. It depends where the dampness is coming from. It doesn't just happen on it's own. An insurance adjuster would need to know where it is coming from and why to see if coverage can be applied. If it's from a plumbing leak and recently discovered, it could possibly be covered. If its from a storm damage to the roof it could possibly be covered. Without knowing where it originated from it's difficult to say. One thing is for sure... if the cause is because of wear and tear, incorrect installation, manufacturer defect, or a maintenance issue, it will not be covered.

  7. try reading your home insurance policy to find out.

  8. ospreyslover, Home insurance covers lots of different things. I don't understand all the fine print of my home policy, but my homeowners insurance agent is always helpful. Try visting your agent or a homeowners agent in your town. http://www.easyhomeinsuranceguide.com They should be able to help you.

  9. no

  10. You must study your buildings insurance policy - or phone the company. If you're not covered, get at least three reliable firms in to assess the problem and give you estimates before you proceed. Some may tell you that you need this or that when in fact you don't! Good luck.
