Can you claim rent on your taxes from two different provinces?

I was living in ontario for four months paying rent, moved to alberta and lived there for 6 months and moved back to ontario. can I claim the rent I paid in both ontario and alberta?

  1. If the rent is for a home office of a business,  then it's part of a home office expense and you can claim it all.

    If it's for the amount on line 6110 it is only the rent paid in Ontario.

    Occupancy cost

    Your occupancy cost only covers the period in 2007 that you lived in your principal residence in Ontario.  From

  2. The only two provinces that I'm aware allow a claim for rent paid by a private citizen are Ontario and Manitoba (actually I'm not at all sure about Québec).

    These are provincial credits and are in the same category as Property tax Credits. Neither province allows the claim to include rent paid in other provinces.

    In your situation, you can claim the amount paid for rent in Ontario.

  3. You only need to file the tax where you stay at 12-31. You cannot claim any rent expense unless this is part of your business expense. That shall enter into your company income statement.
