Can you clean a BROAN Stove Exhaust Hood filter?

Question

We live in an apartment and the filter in our Broan Exhaust Hood is nas-ty. Can we soak it in soap and water to clean or is this a special filter that HAS to be replaced? The photo is here...

use that oarnge cleaner, it works really well on vent hood filters, you  can also put it in the dishwasher.

I run mine through the dish washer...

If it's like mine, it's a metal mesh type stuff.  Soaking it in a sink of hot water and dish detergent works as does running it through the dishwasher.
