  1. Yes...

iMovieHD Project 1 will have all the standard definition video. Do as much cutting as you can - then share/export the project time line items out to "Best quality" QuickTime mov files.

iMovieHD Project 2 will be the high definition video. Drag/drop the exported standard definition clips into the clips pane of Project 2...

You *may* have some aspect ratio issues - with any luck you did the standard definition in 16:9 (rather than default 4:3). High definition is ALWAYS 16:9. If not, since the high definition video is always 16:9, then the standard def 4:3 will have black bars on the left and right. If you need the aspect ratios to be the same, I don't think standard iMovieHD can make that adjustment - you will need to locate an iMovieHD plugin (there are several online plug-in developers - do a search using "imovie plugin") for that aspect ratio correction.

If you have not yet captured the high definition video, read through your camcorder manual - most of the consumer high definition camcorders available allow you to make a menu selection change to capture video in 4:3 or 16:9 standard definition so this would be the same format and aspect ratio used by the original standard definition camcorder... so there would be no change in aspect ratio or video format.
