Can you compare geelong in 2008 to essendon in 2000?

Essendon won their games by bigger margins in 2000 and they had a better percentage but to be honest i reckon Geelong is better.

But you can't really compare them because of the different tactics used by clubs over the years.......8 years is ages!!

Geelong, essendon were so good in 2000 but geelong now is some of the best stuff i will ever see. they are just unstopable and so efficent around the ground!

Essendon was great in 2000, but the Geelong team of 2007/2008 have been phenomenal, and they have dominated over a long period of time.

Look I'm a Cats fan so it's hard for me to be unbiased but I thought the West Coast of the early 90's was the best a footy team could be.  I watched them flog us stupid.

The Hawks & Essendon teams of that era were good and way above the 2000 team.  The Brisbane premiership teams were outstanding and got better over the three years ...

But player for player and team for team, this Cats team is the best footy team I've ever seen.  If in doubt name ONE fringe Cats player who wouldn't be amongst the first picks for any other club (e.g. Rooke, Varcoe, Byrnes).  You could never say that of Brisbane or West Coast even at their best.

**Although Essendon were a great side in 2000, I think the current Geelong side is better.  If they go on to win the Grand Final again this year I think they'll be proving that and would be up there with Brisbane in 2001/02/03.  Time will tell if Geelong can produce the goods.**

football was a different game ten years ago, not as fast, the players were smaller and less athletic. Essendon were first amongst equals in this framework.

Essendon was the team of 2000 as the Liars were in the successive years, and Geelong is now. There have been other teams win the premiership meantime but they have not had the depth, perseverance or evenness of talent to compare to these three in this century.

There is no obvious successor to the Cats, as they are not yet in decline. The nearest pretenders at present are probably the Kangas and the Woods, with exciting young teams not decimated by injury, ego or club divisions as certain others are this year.

Comparing Essendon in 2000 and Geelong in 2008 is comparing fish with bicycles.

I'd slip in between these two teams & nominate Brisbane as the best.

But out of the two you have mentioned, I'd go for Geelong.
