  1. You might need to clarify the question.  Why would you need a hdtv when you have a hd projector?  You don't project it onto the tv.  You project it onto a projector screen.


  2. Yes. Any device that outputs a video signal that can be watched on a TV can be connected to a similar resolution projector.

    The projector serves as a monitor (no tuner), but otherwise can be considered equivalent (and an alternative to an HDTV).

    You only thing to be concerned about is that the inputs are compatible with the outputs (i.e. same connector type (e.g. HDMI for HD) and that the projector accepts the specific resolution signal (e.g. 1080p) that the source device (in this case the PS3) outputs.

    Specifically, to enjoy a Blu-ray movie or a 1080p game on a projector you would need a projector capable of accepting a 1080p signal (and at the output frame rate (e.g. 60, 30 or 24 fps)).
