Can you connect a ps3 to the logitech z-2300 speakers?

have a hp monitor that i have connected my ps3 to via hdmi. The sound comes out of the speakers which is pretty c**p so i wanted to get a sound system for it. I was looking at the z-2300 and it seems like some awesome speakers but i dont know if you can hook it up to the ps3 even though it comes with the game adapter. Even if you can will you get the proper sound? or will it be limited to like plain stereo or something. If i cant use the z-2300 i have to go for the z-5500 which is a 5.1 system that is more expensive but it has optical so i can connect to ps3. By the way i have the new 40gb version of the ps3 that i bought in australia. My ps3 has only optical

If you want good sound, you need a system with optical input.
