Can you connect two Pokemon roms using LAN and battle/trade?

Is it possible to connect two Pokemon roms (Firered and Leafgreen) as if they were connected with a link cable? Both the computers use the same internet connection, so we can connect using LAN. Can this be done?

  1. nope there might be a program or something tho  


  2. I have tried and as far as I know you cannot with commercial Emulators however someone may be able to make one that will allow connection
