Question:

Can you consistently win at poker...?

only playing based on correct math? That is, doing the math on pot odds vs outs? No reads, tells, or gut feelings. Cold hard math. Obviously you'd adjust your starting hand requirements for position and whether or not there have been any (re)raises.

Can you win at Hold em (limit hold em would be more likely) without being able to read other players for tells, over the long term?

  1. NO. and if you are going to play, i suggest no limit hold em. you have to be able to read tells. and you have to understand that a lot of the poker stereotypes ARE true, if you want to win often. in general (NOT always) black people are not as fast at math. asians play loose, meaning they are more likely to go all in or bet big on a hand that is not guaranteed to win. poker where the dealer does not play is the only game in a casino set up in the players favor. like hold em, Omaha, those kind. 3 card and 4 card, "paradise poker" caribbean stud, all those are set up for the casino to win. in hold em and those types, found in the poker room, not anywhere else in a casino, the dealer takes a "rake" and gets tipped, so that's how they make money off the game. being food at math helps big time. but tells are also very important. i suggest you download party poker and play the play money tournaments and see how you do. that's playing with no tells. just see how it goes for you.

  2. Yes, but you won't make as much as you could if you can get a good read on your opponents.  Also, if you only play mathematically, your opponents will get a read on you and you won't get paid off when you have a big hand.  You have to bluff occasionally and play hands like 8-9 and Q-10 once in awhile just to change things up.

  3. the fact of the matter is, no matter how good you are at the math there is still an element of luck.  you could have a person down to 5% chance of winning, he's only got 3 outs, or even 1% with 1 out and he can still catch that card.  so unless you catch the absolute nuts, which is when you look at the board there is no hand that can beat you, there is always the chance that you can lose.  all the limit poker will do is keep the amount in which you lose down.

  4. it is abviously about luck but even tactics and ability to read opponent without getting read..

    heres a good tactic

  5. Definately yes. Based on math most of the poker robots/machines work and even if the winnings are not large or even if they loose like in the Phil Laaks' case ( http://pokerworks.com/article-1150.html ) it is only because machine played against a poker pro. Poker players usually loose because they chase the card, they bluff and take a risk. Machines does not do that, if man played like a machine he or she would win.
