No, I am not lazy! I cooked 3 meals a day for 25 years. I am alone now and I just wanted to try something new.

  1. Hate to disagree but I think most vegetables don't come out right in the microwave.  Here's my favorite way to cook green beans:  Bring a pot of water to boil.  Add salt, 1/2 tsp of thyme leaves and two cloves of garlic.  Cook until tender but not soggy. Drain.  In the same pot melt 1 tablespoon of butter and mash the cooked garlic cloves into the melted butter.  Then toss the beans in the butter and garlic.  Adjust salt and pepper to taste.  Yummy!

  2. Yes you can but I find they cook unevenly. I prefer to steam them over the pot I do my spuds in.

  3. I did it the other night. Still waiting for our new stove to be delivered so we are living off the grill and in the microwave. Gotta cook those veggies somehow. :)

I put the green beans in a microwave safe bowl with about 1 tbs. of water on the bottom. Covered it with plastic wrap and nuked it for about 5 minutes.

  4. Of course!  I put them in a microwave safe dish with a teensy bit of water, loosely cover and time for 5 minutes.  They're usually not done, but I can keep zapping them for a minute at a time until they're crisp-tender.

  5. OMG...fresh vegetables in the microwave...are you nuts...or too lazy to steam them for 5 minutes...yuck!
