here is address for the painting
and this is background of painting
Korean born Gyu-Joon Yang's new series of works are produced from what he calls his own "cultural and aesthetic hybridity" and mix traditional mark marking with new forms of mark making. Yang's colours are derived from traditional Korean paper and pottery, and he takes inspiration from traditional Korean calligraphy and customs, which are merged with influences from his current environment.
Behind every work in the Fluid Mind exhibition are hours of meditation and practice strokes. The artist only has one chance to "succeed" on the canvas. The gestural marks contain parts of Korean letters, while others have symbolic attributes, like the springing up of cherry blossom (How are you? No.33). No.34 references a figure of regret, while No.37 references the Tui bird by the stream. The accompanying part of the diptych reflects the glimpses of sun through the dark, and work to balance the coming together of all the parts of a hybrid culture. While some of the works appear to contain sorrow, (expressing the difficulties of living in a new place and struggling to communicate) there is hope. The coloured egg shapes are the "new Kiwi life" stamped onto a life lived so far.
