Can you cycle along the manchester ship canal from runcorn?

i want to cycle to manchester from my home in liverpool, and was looking for a direct route , i came across the MSC and was wondering if there is a path which runs next to it

You can go your own way, make your own trail.   I am a continental so unfamiliar with you terrain.  Just take a day off to explore the route.
