Can you decorate using interior shutters AND draperies?

I have shutters on my interior windows downstairs and I think the room needs a little more color. I'm going to paint the room something other than the "blah" white but I still want something around those windows. Maybe just a valance? How about draperies? What do you guys think?

Simple valance - no drapes.  My sister just got the inside white shutters with large slats.  Look great as they are.  Maybe you just need to paint the wall nearby or add some art.  I think the shutters look fine the way they are.  Don't clutter them up with drapes.

keep the shutters white and maybe add a dream catcher to the window, paint the walls what ever color you want, maybe put sheers at both sides or maybe a side curtain
