Can you defer a year at University after beginning it?

I really don't know how this goes, I applied to a course abroad, in Ireland.

I accepted their offer of a place, but now I have second thoughts, and I want to make sure that I will be able to change my mind later or not.

Please help! Anything would be helpful to me. Really.

You generally can defer for a year but you have to contact the college themselves.

I would urge you to do it soon beacuse there is usually a deadline.

If you have already started the course then you generally need a good reason.

I deferred due to ill health.

Dont presume not being sure wont be a good enough reason though, just talk to them.
