I live in michigan and I found a yellow-green catapillar on the road. It has two black eyespots on the front of it's body and it has two lighter eyespots on the top of his head. He has navy blue spots down his back on both sides of his body and he has dark yellow on the bottom half of his body.

When you touch his head he raises his head and puts up two antennae and gives of a rotten fruit smell. His head is larger than the tail end of his body. What is he?

  1. A spicebush swallowtail larva.  For some reason, this photo does not show the antennae, but my insect book shows them.  Perhaps they are retractable.
