Can you delete application software after you open it and install it?

For example, I have 2 yahoo messenger icons on my desktop. One is the package that they send to me and then I open it and install it. Now, I can throw out or trash that other icon, right? Thanks

Deleting an icon will not remove the application

To remove a program, go to control panel and click on add /remove program and find the one you are looking for.  then delete it by clicking on remove

one it is installed yes you can delete the downloaded package
