  1. Human population growth before Industrial revolution: more sperodic, high fluctuations (usually, boom created in wealthy areas and too much weath and disasters and epidemic reducing population heavily), generally an overall slower growth.

    After the revolution, more agressive, stable and faster growth (though now, the growth is starting to slow down with population pressures and hightened knowledge, late marriages etc.).

    Pre industrial growths have been heavily influenced by a pattern of finding a new place with plenty of resources (especially things like gold, coal or other resources), population booms (primarily due to migration), more younger populations, resulting in growth (higher rate of births) until it got crowded enough and start to stabilize. Think california gold rush, but mostly by increasing density. Post revolution, populated cities seem to offer a better life style and hence do contribute to people migrating in but cities now tend to expand more and more in size with population than people just cramming more and more like before.

    Then again, it also depends on many other variables, like which country you are talking about.
