Can you die fabric on a couch without removing it from the couch?

i dont want to cover the couch with new fabric because it has nice fabric but an ugly green.

Very tricky.  You have to worry about where you plan on doing the dye job as it can be messy.  Sometimes you will end up dying part/parts of the couch and the dye will be different shades, kind of like if you start painting a wall and stop for a phone call or something for example.  The shade of paint, (dye in your case) will be difficult to keep the same throughout. You can paint it, or have slip covers made.  There is no way to rinse dye out of an upholstered piece of furniture.
