Can you die from eating bamboo (because it contains cyanide)?

Question

Cyanide is a poisonous compound that can lead to poisoning and death. I was just watching a show earlier describing something about bamboo containing cyanide. So is it possible to die from eating bamboo, as you are ingesting cyanide as well?

doubtful, it occurs in trace amounts and you'd have to eat a lot of it.  kinda like someone dying from marijuana- not going to happen.

and by the way, good luck eating bamboo.  that sounds like it might kill you in and of itself.

You can if you eat a lot. The ancient mongols had methods of taking it out of bamboo and using it on arrow tips and spear tips. Is it bamboo or bamboo shoots. The shoots can be cooked to get it out.
