Actually if it is bad enough to be pushing on your lungs then it will end up killing you. It has happened.

Yes it can if very severe.  Your lungs cannot expand, no oxygen getting to your brain ect. Some deaths have occured during surgery to correct it. Thats why you need early treatment

No... scoliosis will not kill you.  The more important question is how much of a curvature do you have?  Most people have some scoliosis and it is not noticeable.  When the curvature begins to be so great that it puts pressure on your heart or lungs then it can predispose you to illnesses.

I have met people in their 80's with severe scoliosis (60% curvatures) and they continue to have productive lives with minimal health risks.

it is very unhealthy not to have it dealt with by bracing or surgery
