  1. The same goes with abbreviations!  Some abbreviations, or words that started out as abbreviations, are now acceptable for Scrabble play.  Such as scuba, pita, snafu, etc.  Even some words which should never be acceptable are, for instance fe.  There is no rhyme or reason to what they accept and what they don't accept--and what is good for some years and then is taken out in others.  The Scrabble Gods must be confused!  Scrabble players are.


  2. No you can't use contractions unless you and the person you are playing with decide to play by your own rules.  My daughter and I do that sometimes.  For example, sometimes we agree to use only words that are capitalized.

  4. No. Contractions aren't allowed. But keep in mind that some words, like ITS, CANT and WONT are legal. They become a different word if you stick an apsotrophe in there, but without the apostrophe have a completely different meaning.
