Can you double hit in tennis?

I watched a video of Fed. He hit the ball, it hit the net and bounced toward his court then he hit it again. Is that legal?

No you cant double hit in tennis...only one bounce allowed. The point when Federer did that didnt count.. He lost the point because it hit the net and then from anger probably smacked it again. Double hits aren;t allowed.

No only one bounce is allowed unless you would like to lose the point.

Are you talking of Boris Becker (and mentioned Fed by mistake) by any chance because I remember seeing a video of his which made me feel just what you've described. However later on I realised that he dived for the ball, but the ball caught the tape and bounced on his side and he managed to hit it back to his opponent for a winner probably.

thats impossible. its completely illegal.

you are not allowed to hit the ball twice. however since tennis can be a very fast game and the strokes are very quick, it happens where the ball bounces of your raquet twice. but thats an accident and happens extremely fast. in which case its legal since it was an accident.

what you described federer doing is illegal therefor i find it hard to believe he did. the ball might have hit the net and bounced on his side of the court meaning he lost the point. maybe he hit the ball again after he had lost the point, in which case it wouldnt matter.

In that situation that is not legal and he could not win the point but there are instances where double hitting is accepted. If you accidentally hit the ball twice, but it was a result of one  swing then it is still in play. So you can technically double hit it but you cannot swing at the ball more than once.

Unfortunately, that is illegal. From the way you've described it , yes it is totally illegal !!

Only in disabled tennis, you are allowed a double bounce. However, if you're playing TENNIS, either your a junior , professional you are only allowed one bounce.

I did a double hit during a game point. Lost the match. Never knew that it was illegal before. =/
