Can you download software on to a USB stick?

Yes I know "stealing" software from work/college/uni is illegal but is it possible to download it onto a USB?

  1. you need the installation files.  So you'll probably have to copy them from a CD.

    You may also have to copy the CD as an ISO and use a program to trick you computer into thinking that its a real CD.  Look into a program called powerISO.  Its what i use.


  2. some applications you can simply drag and drop onto a stick and it will work fine on another computer. however, for the big ones like Photoshop or Word it is required to have the Installer file, since it installs code and libraries across the whole computer, not to mention the serial number and access information. You can certainly try, but it's highly doubtful the "biggies" will work with a simple drag and drop.

  5. When you download dont click open click save then copy the file from the downloads folder onto your usb stick  

  6. If it's the installation files you're copying you'll be ok (apart from legal issues, that is). If it's already installed then you may find it doesn't work when you copy it to another machine. It really depends what the software is.
