My mates planning on buying a 1990 Ford Laser KF which its drive type is 4 wheel...Its a manual...He was wondering if you would be able to drift in it?

Is that at all possible ? Why, why not? what are the risks of it apposed to Rear wheel drive drifting?! thanks!

  1. Nope, it will not give you the FUN factor you looking for...OIL Surface, dangerous, all wheel drive will keep floating...

  2. 4wds require alot of power to be drifted well, to the poster above saying they have too much traction, that is pure nonsense, there is no such thing as too much traction, as only a higher speed is required, however he could be referring to how 4wds tend to understeer when pushed. Unless your Laser is the turbocharged model, you probably don't have enough power to do this on dry tar, but try left-foot braking on a slippery surface, that is your brake while accelerating after you turn the wheel. And since it's a manual, pick the lowest gear you can without blowing the engine up(the car can tolerate brief redlining) In terms of risks I wouldn't recommend trying to drift where you could hit anything hard(that includes humans and cars) and that means public roads are a no no, because with so little power, your style of drifting would involve entering the corner at very high speeds, and leaving very little room for error. Good luck.

  3. I suggest you take a sharp curve...

release the accelerator completely while holding the clutch of course...

and as you take the curve.. floor it..

    and if that don't work...

find a cement surface... throw oil on it...

    and HAVE FUN!

    LolX!

  4. Not likely, certainly not on dry pavement. On a dirt surface, sure, but awd will have too much traction to drift on pavement

  5. It's possible to drift in an AWD car, though with power going to all four wheels it takes more of it to break traction. With the meager amount of power the little Laser puts to the ground (far less than 100hp stock) you'll probably have a very hard time breaking traction. Go find a dirt road and see if you can do it there, you won't be breaking traction on a dry road in a laser any time soon though.

Oh, and do NOT pollute the place up by putting oil on the ground like some other answers have jocularly suggested.
